SoCal Airsoft Dictionary
As in every community, we here in SoCal have words and phrases that are our own. We are breaking down the inside-joke-only walls and bringing these terms to light for the growth of every community we may reach. Below is the ever growing list we have compiled and will continue to compile as long as the community keeps cranking them out.

No Boner Rule
Origin: Nick @ Utah Airsoft
Definition: 1) And un-written, un-official, but well understood rule (or good etiquette) in an Airsoft team/game that, if not followed, pisses everyone off because it ruins everything.
2) A common-sense rule that isn't listed anywhere but every player knows they shouldn't do it. Usually learned from experience.
3) The rule you broke the last time you did something that caused everyone around you to give you mean looks or whine, "what the hell dude?! C'mon! That's so lame! Why'd you do that?!"
Example: In real combat, no one would ever pick up a piece of particle board and use it as a shield to stop real bullets - so why would you do that in a game? DON'T DO THAT! It's a No Boner Rule.
When you're playing a long game with lots of regens and your team gets slaughtered...now the enemy is laying in ambush, all angles are covered, there is no cover to hide behind and they are killing people the second they rez in. That's lame. Really lame. It's a No Boner Rule.
A player is dead and standing in the middle of the field "test-firing" his gun, not walking out of the field, not proclaiming that he's out, thus confusing the hell out of all the other people playing around him. He just broke a No Boner Rule. "Pfffff - what a boner".
Background:
This is similar to the SoCal Airsoft usage of "That Guy". Meaning the player who does something stupid and becomes "That Guy" in everyone's AAR. Utah's usage is more creative and colorful, which therefore trumps our "That Guy".

Probie

2) A new member of an airsoft group, not yet full fledge. Initiate, Cadet, etc... Usually a pointman at OPs a probbie's job is to flush out the enemy or "probe" for contacts. Subject to useless tasks and orders, usually at the butt end of team hazings.
Example: Probie - "I left 6 mags back at regen... I would go get them, but regen is 1/2 mile away." "Send the Probie, that's what he's here for."
Background:
It's every team's duty to treat it's newest candidate like the proverbial dog that they are. From menial tasks to walking point into an ambush.. the probie pays the price. Often they are the butt of all the jokes and hazed to no end, but once or if they make the team.. the bond is stronger than those that are just assimilated in.
