We actually did it! It seemed like forever in the making but Episode came and went without any big hitches. Alphawolf dialed in from SoCal while Radar and guests TJ, Matt and Zach broadcast from Western NY. I'll be honest, it felt good to be back in the saddle again. In this episode, we sorta covered MilSim Nerfification; how safety measure tend to diminish player immersion... but in classic OPSEC fashion, the conversation branched all over the place. The comedy highlight was the OPSEC Airsoft Mailbag where we read a few amazing listener-submitted emails. For those interested, the the Ep.128 show notes contain the complete list of items/segments & bits discussed.

Maint Topic: MilSim Nerfification

Airsoft is just a game, right? At the end of a day of playing, we all want to go home to our families relatively unscathed by our activities and resume our normal lives... which is the case, the vast majority of the time. This is due simply to the safety measure set in place by game organizers, field owners as well as player personal safety. The cost of even the minimal safety measures is the over nerf-ification of milsim gaming, killing certain "sexy" elements of the game. Today we will discuss milsim-killing safety elements, what you can do to lessen the impact and much more as our main topic: MilSim Nerfification.

OPSEC Airsoft Mailbag

We get alot of emails from our listeners... most are positive, some are correcting errors and the rest are less than cordial to say the least. From time to time we get the rare gold nuggets that we wish to share with the rest of you, enjoy:

From: Tim K., Redmond WA
Subject: Why?
Body:
Oh OPSEC.. just die already. There are so many other podcasts, blogs, youtube channel that destroy you.. why would anyone waist the time on you? You had a good run now move on. Or don't, I'm glad your back and never stopped hoping that one day you would return. Thank you from the bottom of my milsim laden heart.

From: Amanda R., Dallas TX
Subject: Female presence returning?
Body:
Hey OpSec, I was wondering if Tak would be returning to the program? As a female player, it was great having a female voice so prominently heard, even if it was on your podcast. Please up her pay and get her back!

From: Xavier L.
Subject: YOU SUCK
Body:
Welcome back, assholes!

From: Gunther
Subject: Fly you out to the UK for a game?
Body:
I hope you drown in the tub you worthless bunch of shit bags! Welcome back.

Subject: Which gun am best

From: Jim D.
Subject: UGH!!!
Body:

From: Mike G.
Subject: John Lu
Body:
When is John Lu coming back on the show? You need to get him back to up your audience.

From: Destro
Subject: Dr. Mindbender's Attire
Body:
Dear Cobra Commander, I am tired of constantly having to be exposed to Dr. Mindbender's shirtless cape wearing while in the Terror Dome. His personal hygiene is nonexistent and I should not have to be subjected to his constant flaunting of abs and red suspenders. Please take action immediately!

The last official word was that it would be a cold day in hell before you saw another OPSEC Airsoft podcast/show released. Grab your gloves and sleds kiddies, because in 2012, hell is freezing over! The logic behind yet another comeback cannot really be explained other than nostalgia and "the itch." It sounds strange but OPSEC Airsoft runs through my veins and no matter how many times I "quit" I will never be truly done. That being said, let's get on with what we are cooking up for 2012!

The resurrection of this bloated dinosaur will come with changes (staff, content, tech, etc) that will hopefully give the show more bite and useful information. The focus of the show will remain the same; random airsoft topics mixed with news and conversation all submitted by players/staffers to simply recreate the atmosphere of hanging out after an airsoft game. More focus and attention will be paid to listener contributions, interviews, tactics, gear, hardware and reviews. There are quite a few subtle backend plans that, if executed correctly, will greatly improve the show that most of you will never even see. As you can tell, I'm more than excited and almost ready to get the OPSEC ball rolling in the right direction again!

No hard dates have been set for new shows, but we are shooting for late January to early February. Naturally we will update our various social media sites (facebook, twitter, google+) once we have said dates. The forums are back up as is the live chat with it so you can contribute and communicate with the OPSEC staff as you see fit. We are very excited to get going and look forward to what 2012 has in store for OPSEC Airsoft Radio.

Our good friend Orca from Airsoft Monkey is doing his part in helping Japan earthquake relief by organizing eBay auctions, selling unique Airsoft, MilSim, Reenactor, Tactical and Collectible items. Auction proceeds will go to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. Here's the short version:

Due to the recent tragic events in Japan and the fact that the airsoft hobby is as popular as it is today, due to Japanese Airsoft Companies. We felt compelled to try and give back to Japan in their time of need.

We have created eBay auctions and are selling unique Airsoft, MilSim, Reenactor, Tactical and Collectible items. Auction proceeds will go to Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. Click here for more information on the fund or to make a direct cash donation.

All items have been donated by local organizations, and individual airsofters. Some items are truely unique and would be hard to find. Please take this opportunity to help the people of Japan. We will keep these auctions live as long as we have items to auction.

It's been a while since we had a full-house for a live show and episode 127 didn't disappoint. On this show, Haggerty from WNYAL, TJ and Zach all sat in with Radar and Alphawolf to record. While we were a bit rusty starting out, we found our groove and had a blast. In this episode, we answered listener mail, defined yet another term for the OPSEC Airsoft Dictionary and covered the main topic of how to start an airsoft team. All in all, not too shabby. For those interested, the Ep.127 show notes contain the complete list of items/segments & bits discussed. Big thanks to our guests, rowdy but entertaining chat, live listeners as well as you podcast downloaders.

The Episode 127 podcast can be downloaded via iTunes or the Download page. The official feedback thread is up on our forum for those that want to praise/flame us.

OPSEC Airsoft Dictionary

Term:
Billboard

Definition:
1) A player who fixes an obscene amount of patches to their gear.
2) A player who sports multiple patches, shirts, hats, etc from airsoft companies they have no official association with.

Example:
"Take a look at <players name>, could he fit any more patches on that ruck? What a billboard."

Background:
Patches are fun and a conversation piece, but when every inch of velcro is covered by a patch, you've gone too far and look like a douche. Moreover, you are allowed to love your favorite retailer/site/shop/etc but when you start sporting multiple pieces of company swag you have just become a walking advert. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but be sure you are well aware of what you have become... their free billboard.

The SOCOM Gear Punisher 1911 now has competition with a version released by Western Arms and available at eHobby Asia for US$495.00 which of course is a steeper price to pay. The grip panels sport a black logo rather than a golden one in the SOCOM Gear version. But if you prefer the Western Arms over the SOCOM Gear, then be prepared to pay more.

"The 1911 pistol is considered by many gun collectors and veterans to be the greatest self-loading pistol ever made and the grandfather of the modern handgun, which despite its age is still used alongside modern pistols today. Designed by John Moses Browning in 1910 with patent dates going as far back as 1897, the .45 caliber pistol was adopted into the U.S. military arsenal February 14, 1911. Browning had combined traits of his former pistols and built a prototype around the recently-developed .45 ACP round. The end result was the M1911.

Frank Castle (Thomas Jane) uses a pair of heavily customized M1911A1s as his main sidearms in the film.

GunFire: Zeta Labs Mosin available NOW!

Source: Airsoft News.eu
Bartek from GunFire, kindly sent the introduction of the Zet Labs Mosin-Nagant to, the EU market. Mosin is arguably one of the most bad-ass weapons ever made, at least as far as the original goes, think, rude, crude but effective and don't forget, no safety! More as usual, right bellow:

This time I would like to update airsoftnews readers about unique Zeta Lab Mosin Nagant M1944 used by the armed forces of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and various other nations. The replica is now available in Gunfire shop!

Maint Topic: Starting an Airsoft Team

So I have been getting bombarded on the forum and via the contact forms by airsofters asking how to get an airsoft team started. I didn’t really give it much thought initially, but come to think of it, for a new player wanting to get his own team rolling, it is a bit daunting to get a handle on a jumping off point. I, like many team leaders I would imagine, just kind of bumbled our way around getting a team going when we started out. Trial and error is the best learning method, but if I can help fellow ‘softers avoid going through what I did, then rock on.

After all these years, I have learned a thing or two and with the players making all the requests, I took the opportunity to write an article over on my personal website with a few pointers that I think would help players get their new team in the right direction. Here is an excerpt from the article to wet your taste buds with the full article available here.

I have been listening to alot of the old shows and I'm seeing a pattern of deep hate for the M4 and M16. Why you guys drinking the haterade?

Hey Ospec I was wondering if you would mention my website
www.airsoftconnected.com in your next radio show. You can just take

This would be much appreaciated.
